There were a few differences in this building between the 1930s and the 1940s in just this building that can give you an example of how much Harlem itself changed in this time. There were only so many big differences between 1930 and 1940. Something that had a slight difference was the average age of the people in the building with in 1930 there was no one over 52 in the building but in 1940 the average went up as well as the oldest person being 75. There were all kinds of people in the building at all times but in the 1930s there was more variety of skin colors with there being 30% white people and the remaining 70% white. There wasn't a big difference in marital status between times with the biggest change being a few more single people going from 47% to 51%. There was also a small difference in Sex with in 1930 it being an even 50-50 split and in 1940 it changed to be a little more female than men with there being 55% female.
Regarding birthplace, the top place remained the same between 1930 and 1940 New York with a huge difference between New York and the next biggest birthplace in 1930 South Carolina. In the 1930s there weren’t many people who came from different places outside of New York with almost half of the people coming from New York. This changed in 1940 the people who lived in the building had a lot more variety in their birthplaces with New York still having the most people but there being way more of a variety with a lot of people coming from Pasadena to the point if you added all the south and north Pasadena people they would add up to more than the new yorkers. There were also a lot more people from outside the U.S. that came to Harlem.
